Applying for Federal Direct Student Loans |
If you filed the FAFSA, your financial aid award includes the maximum amount available to borrow from the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan program. Log onto MySlice to complete the application requirements (such as the MPN and Entrance Counseling) to finalize your Unsubsidized Loan.
Graduate PLUS Loans aren’t automatically awarded by the Financial Aid Office. If you need to borrow in excess of the Unsubsidized Loan, use the Budget Calculator to calculate the amount you plan to borrow from the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. Once you determine how much you need to borrow, log onto StudentLoans.gov to apply.
Borrow wisely! If you don’t need to borrow the full amount of Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan offered, send an email to financialaid@law.syr.edu to reduce or decline the loan. Loans can be adjusted anytime throughout the 2016-2017 academic year. That means you can request a conservative amount – if you need to adjust your loans later, you have that option.
